Pedestrian struck, killed crossing 158 in Kill Devil Hills

On Friday, November 30, a pedestrian crossing US 158 was struck and killed by a motorist driving northbound at approximately at 9:40 p.m., according to information from the Kill Devil Hills Police Department.

Kill Devil Hills Police Department wreck reconstructionists investigating the fatality believe the pedestrian, Guy Vanderver, 55, of Kill Devil Hills, was crossing the highway near 1822 N. Croatan Highway. The motorist, Michael Draper, 37, also of Kill Devil Hills, was traveling northbound on US 158 when he struck Vanderver.

A search warrant for blood was served on Draper to determine if alcohol was a factor. Draper has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle.

KDHPD has had reports of people claiming to have witnessed the incident on various social media sites, however no witnesses have come forward other than those found at the scene at the time.
