Columbia Lions sponsor essay contest

The Columbia Lions Club is sponsoring the Celebrate Liberty Essay Contest for area Tyrrell County high school students that are taking American history as one of their 2018-19 courses. The statewide winning essayist will receive $250 and will be recognized at the North Carolina Lions State Convention in Greensboro. The local winner will receive a $25 award from the local Lions Club.

Celebrate Liberty is a North Carolina Lions Clubs project that calls attention to the nation’s founding fathers and their writings. Essays must be based upon this year’s theme that is drawn from a quote from John Adams, the first vice president and second president of the United States.

Essays cannot exceed 750 words and are due January 31. For additional information, essay guidelines and a submission form, call 252-796-2781.
