‘Plants Across the Sand’ beach grass presentation at the Kitty Hawk Rotary Club

Sandy Cross, permit coordinator for the Town of Duck, presented the successes of the 2017 – 19 beach grass planting effort that she spearheads to the Kitty Hawk Rotary Club on January 17. After completion of Duck’s beach nourishment project in 2017, Cross began recruiting volunteers to plant beach grass throughout the winter. The project has quickly grown and over 180,000 sprigs of grass have been planted by these dedicated volunteers. Supported by the Duck Town Council, the project has not only helped to add stability to the beach, it has grown a community of volunteers in the off season.
Plantings only take about an hour and are scheduled around the best possible beach weather, so you’ll get your daily dose of vitamin D. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Cross at scross@townofduck.com.
