Hilda Sawyer O’Neal, 76, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.

Born on February 8, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Becton and Aleen Pegram Sawyer. She was married to Basil O’Neal, who survives. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Church of Christ and was a devoted homemaker.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23 at Pleasant Grove Church of Christ. Steven Mills and Raffael Farrow Jr. will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

In addition to her husband surviving are daughter Amy O. Williams of Greenville; sons Jason O’Neal and wife Meagan of Sanford, Todd Nickelsberg and wife Rose of Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Roger Milton Sawyer of Plymouth and sisters Doris S. Phelps of Manteo and Jane S. Lee of Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by brothers Forrest Sawyer, Luther Sawyer, Sterling Sawyer, Murel Sawyer and sister Alice S. Sadler.
