Paula graduated 1958 from WT Griggs School, Poplar Branch, and attended Keys Business School, Raleigh, and Atlantic Christian, Wilson. Paula, as a young newly single mother, had a career in cosmetics with Loreal and Estee Lauder. Upon her marriage to Sam, Mother and Sam enjoyed the pleasures of brown labs, flower gardening, Ocracoke and world travels. My mother’s heart was golden, she never knew a stranger and she never knew a homeless “critter.” My mother was well known for her compliments to others, to her all was beautiful on this earth!

Paula is survived by her daughter, Cathy Gay Lopez and Steve Doxey of Suffolk, Va.; brothers and their families, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Flattum of Powells Point, Mr. and Mrs. Darryl Flattum of Staunton, Va.; and her sister and brother in law, Allie Flattum Grandy and Colin Grandy Jr. Grandy. Paula was blessed with many beautiful nieces, nephew and cousins along with her pup, Remi II.
