Introduction to DNA for Genealogy featured topic of Tyrrell GHS meet

The Tyrrell County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet Sunday, March 24 at 2:30 p.m. The featured speaker is Renate Yarborough Sanders, a descendant of the Hill, Bryant and Davenport families of Tyrrell County. She will be giving a presentation on “Introduction to DNA for Genealogy.”

Sanders has been documenting her family history for over 21 years. Her ancestral roots are in North Carolina. Sanders, the descendant of formerly enslaved ancestors, as well as slave owners and free people of color, is the author of two blogs: “Into the LIGHT,” which focuses on her own family history, and “Genea-Related,” which is a platform for presenting a variety of information of genealogical interest.

Sanders is a member of the North Carolina Genealogical Society, the Afro-American Genealogical and Historical Society and the Tyrrell County Genealogical and Historical Society. Additionally, Sanders is the newsletter editor for the Hampton Roads Chapter of AAHGS and a volunteer photographer for Find-A-Grave.

The Tyrrell County Genealogical and Historical Society meets at the Senior Citizens Center located in Columbia. All meetings are free and open to the public.
