Beach Hazards Statement: High rip current risk for all area ocean beaches

Published 12:20 pm Sunday, May 26, 2019

The National Weather Service has issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Sunday, May 26 with a high risk of rip currents for all Outer Banks ocean beaches. Ocean swimming is not recommended and beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water.

If caught in a rip current, remain calm. Don’t fight the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline. When out of the current, swim back to shore. If tired, float or tread water until out of the rip current. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
