Information about the newest way to Ocracoke Island

The Ocracoke Express is operating now between the Hatteras Village Ferry Dock and Ocracoke’s Silver Lake.

Ocracoke Express service began May 20. The ferry has carried 1,021 passengers on the 70-minute trip between Hatteras and Ocracoke villages on its first three days.

Fare: As of May 22, 2019, the introductory fare is $2 round trip with children 3 and under free. There is no extra charge for bicycles.

Schedule: From May 20 through Sept. 5, 2019, the Ocracoke Express passenger ferry departs from Hatteras ferry terminal at 9 a.m., 1 and 5 p.m. Departures from Ocracoke Silver Lake Terminal are scheduled for 11 a.m., 3 and 7 p.m. The passenger ferry operates seven days a week.

Parking in Hatteras: There are 142 parking spaces and 10 overnight spaces available at the Hatteras ferry terminal. Parking is first-come, first-serve. Overnight parking is not available at the Ocracoke ferry terminal.

Reservation: Reservations are now being accepted through June 15. To make a reservation, call 1-800-BY-FERRY or book online at ncferry.org. Walk-up reservations will still be accepted as long as space is available.

Check in: All passengers must check in no later than 20 minutes before departure time.

Carry-on items: Small carry-on items, backpacks and purses are allowed. Strollers and walkers are also allowed.

Getting around Ocracoke: The Silver Lake Ferry Terminal is within easy walking distance of most of Ocracoke’s shops and restaurants. Hyde County also provides free tram service around the Village, and bikes and golf carts are available for rental near the ferry terminal. The tram loop is 30 minutes long.
Bicycles: The Ocracoke Express passenger ferry has racks for passengers wanting to bring bicycles to Ocracoke. There is no extra charge for bicycles.

Car ferries still operate.
