A Wanchese man died after an early morning motorcycle crash Wednesday. Issac Blain Gibbs, 31, was killed after he lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 264 near Stumpy Point. He died at the scene.

The NC Highway Patrol responded to the accident at 6:12 a.m. on May 29. Authorities say it appears Gibbs lost control of the motorcycle as he was heading east on the highway, ran off the road, struck a guardrail and was thrown from his motorcycle.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The circumstances that led to the accident are unknown and authorities say they may never know exactly how Gibbs lost control of his motorcycle on the desolate strip of highway. The investigation is ongoing.
