North Carolina Insurance Commissioner and State Fire Marshal Mike Causey announced the Hatteras Volunteer Fire Department completed a routine inspection and received a 4 rating.

The department’s previous rating was 7/8, much lower than the new rating.

The newer rating is effective October 1. With the new rating, property owners in Hatteras Village should experience lower insurance costs for new or renewed policies on or after the effective date.
