Jeannette Sibbette Denton

Jeannette Sibbette Denton, 84, of Manteo, died August 15, 2019, at her home.

Born on December 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Pearl Beard and Dennis Sibbette. She was raised in St. Pauls, where she was crowned the first-ever Miss St. Pauls.

Graduating from East Carolina University, Jeannette began her career as a schoolteacher. She served Robeson, Edgecombe, Cumberland, Craven, Hertford and Dare counties before her retirement. Well known for her Brunswick stew, she loved to cook, garden and decorate. She was also an excellent pianist.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Richard H. Denton; daughters Kimberly Snyder and Susan Crumpton (John); son Richard Henry Denton Jr. (Dawn); grandchildren Leah, Dylan, Scott, Alyssa (Drew), Dayna and Alec; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother and her four sisters.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on August 20 at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service and immediately following for a dinner reception in the church fellowship hall.
