Caring together: Friends of Youth, GEM and KHUMC

Published 11:22 pm Tuesday, August 20, 2019

Mentors and youths from the Dare County Friends of Youth mentoring program recently participated in a small group activity with older adults who are part of the GEM Center’s Harmony Café held at Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

Harmony Café is a collaboration between KHUMC and a co-host that can be either a church group or community group such as Friends of Youth. Each gathering includes introductions, a craft, chair exercises, a meal and music.

The Harmony Café is a caring environment that encourages friendships and fosters acceptance. It provides activities for older adults receiving care, and a change of pace for their caregivers.
