Mighty Wind welcomes new pastor

Mighty Wind welcomed the Rev. Dr. Michelle Lewis as their new pastor on July 1.

Dr. Lewis is a native of Manteo and recently moved back to the area from New York, where she pastored the United Methodist Churches in New Rochelle, Catskill, East Berlin, Conn. She also served as the youth worker at Newtown UMC in Sandy Hook, Conn.

Dr. Lewis completed her undergraduate work at Elizabeth City State University and holds an M.A. in communication from Regent University. She became the first woman of color to complete joint Master’s degrees from Yale University, where she completed a Master of Environmental Science and a Master of Divinity. She completed her doctoral work at Emory’s Candler School of Theology, where she studied the intersectionality of justice issues.

Dr. Lewis also spent time working at the U.N. as an advisor and traveled as a member of a delegation to Saudi Arabia where she worked on Muslim/Christian dialogues.
