Kill Devil Hills – On August 28, 2019, Margaret Ann (nee Shannon) Parker passed way at home unexpectedly. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on January 18, 1950 to George and Alice Shannon who predeceased her. A graduate of Arlington High School she received her RN from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing. She spent the rest of her life caring for others. She found her greatest calling in being a hospice nurse at the Salisbury Visiting Nurses in Salisbury, CT and later with Dare County Home and Hospice on the Outer Banks.

She leaves behind her husband of 47 years, Charlie of Kill Devil Hills, NC; daughter, Shannon A. Parker of Tilden, NH; son Chip Parker and his wife (another daughter) Cindy and their two sons Ethan and Nate of Lolo, MT; and daughter, Kate Parker-Reilly and her husband Pat and their daughters Alice and Ella of Southington, CT. Also surviving is her sister, Kathleen Wixted of Jarvisburg, NC, her husband Mike, their kids and grandkids; and her brother, Joe Shannon and wife Emma of Flagstaff, AZ.

She was predeceased by her Special Olympian brother, Michael Shannon who she missed every day. Margaret took pride in her family, especially “the grandkids.” Her eyes would sparkle just at the mention of their names. She’s also leaving behind a cast of hundreds of relatives, friends, co-workers, patients and their families who she touched with her kindness and grace. It’s impossible to name you all, but, importantly, you know who you are. Every family has “The One.” The one in the background who made everything better. The one who everyone called first . . . for help . . . or to share joy . . . or to share your pain. The one who was always there for you. Margaret was ours. Cherish yours.
