Kill Devil Hills – CWO Jerry P. Simpson, USCG, Retired, 75, of Kill Devil Hills, NC died Sunday, September 8, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born in Norfolk, VA, raised in Manteo, NC, the third son of Jasper Deerwood Simpson and Sabrina Barnette Simpson.

A 1962 graduate of Manteo High School, Jerry joined the United States Coast Guard in 1963 retiring in 1983 after twenty years of service.

Following his military retirement, he began commercial fishing chartering his own boat, “Miss Willene.” Jerry was also a Ferry Captain for the NCDOT serving the Knotts Island and Hatteras ferries.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 55-years, Willene Partridge Simpson of Kill Devil Hills; daughter, Jerrileigh Simpson-Olds and husband Howard; son, Scott Simpson and wife Jenni; daughter, Wendy Simpson; son, Toby Simpson; brother, J.D. Simpson and wife Joyce of Great Bridge, VA; sister-in-law, Iris Silverthorne of Kitty Hawk, NC; grandchildren, Scotty, Sammi Jo, Toshiana, and Sol; and great-grandchildren, Terran, Brynley, Joselyn, Sam, and Gwendolyn; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Holland Davis; and a brother, David Wade Simpson (Terri).

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, NC, with Rev. Jerald Craddock officiating. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Simpson residence, 1229 Colington Road, Kill Devil Hills, NC, following the service to celebrate and remember Jerry.
