William Michael “Mike” Capps, 68, died from heart complications on August 31, 2019, while living in Eunice, Louisiana. Born in Goldsboro, NC on May 11, 1951, he was the son of the late William Vick and Margaret Powell Capps. He is survived by son, Michael Brandon Capps (Jennifer); grandchildren, Mikayla and Caden Capps of Wilmington, NC; daughter, Gracia Hahn of Seattle, Washington; sisters, Peggie Capps Bayliss (Bruce) of Warsaw, NY; Barbara Capps Setzer of Asheville, NC; along with scores of other faithful friends.

A vagabond at heart, when not residing in North Carolina, Mike lived in California, Oregon, Montana, Louisiana and Italy. His Sea Captain’s License afforded several opportunities to sail the entire Eastern Seaboard, Gulf of Mexico and the Mediterranean. A gifted wood craftsman, his talents culminated in artisan creations of furniture, as well as, the joinery of elegant yacht interiors. His fond love of people and cooking called for entertaining with an “expanded” story, a drink or two, music and an epicurean menu with most ingredients caught from the sea, hunted in the woods or grown in his garden. He trained his beloved Labradors using a gentle, but firm hand, producing beautifully behaved dogs; Cindy and Belle, his favorite girls.

A very tall, talented man with a generous, warm heart, he will be sorely missed by many. A memorial celebration will be held at a future date in Dare County on the Outer Banks, a place where he lived longest and loved best. Bring a good story, and maybe even an expanded one!
