Melanie Swain Pratt, 65, of Nags Head, died September 20, 2019. Born in Tokyo, Japan, Melanie spent her early years traveling the world with her parents, Ashley and Doris Swain (both deceased). Her father was a U.S. diplomat whose overseas assignments included Japan, Turkey, Spain, Panama, England and Australia.

Melanie lived in Nags Head for over thirty years and worked as a dental technician. She had two children, Jamie Mitchell (deceased) and Dawn Hovermale; six grandchildren, Myrceeia Hovermale, Alethia Hovermale, Idalis Joiner, Malina Mitchell, Michael Mitchell and Courtney Baxter and seven great grandchildren. Additional survivors include brother John Howard Swain and his wife Marsha Mercant as well as friends.

Her life celebration to be announced at a future date.
