NC 12 open on Hatteras Island; motorists should use caution

Published 6:29 pm Saturday, October 12, 2019

The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, October 12 that two lanes from the Basnight Bridge to Hatteras Village are now open and passable. The notice urges motorists to use extreme caution due to deep standing water and sand on the roadway at numerous locations along that entire section of NC12.

NCDOT crews will monitor conditions through Saturday evening’s high tide at 8 p.m. to determine if closure is again necessary for the safety of the traveling public. If closure is required, this section of NC 12 will remain closed until NCDOT can assess and clear the roadway Sunday morning.
