State results in cross country competition

In the Men’s 1A Cross Country meet, 147 runners from 41 schools competed Nov. 9 at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.

The winner was Aaron Rovnak with a time of 16:05.97 from Franklin Academy.

Top Camden runner Ethen Osborn finished 48th at 18:33.71.

Cape Hatteras Secondary’s Shank Austin finished 64th with a time of 18:51:71.

In the Men’s 2A Cross Country Meet, 164 runners from 47 schools ran the race. Jason Thomson finished first with a time of 15:40.66, leading his North Lincoln team to its third consecutive state championship. First Flight boys finished second to North Lincoln each of those years.

First Flight High School’s team finished second in the state meet with a team score of 73. Running for the Nighthawks were Zach Hughes who finished in fourth place with 16:03.86; Joseph Davidson, seventh place, 16:09.21; Tyler Sylvia, twelfth place, 16:23.73; Max Bowlin, 31st, 17:07.57; Warner Campbell, 35th, 17:16.53, all of whom produced points for the second place finish. Also running were Aiden May at 67th and Trent Sylvia at 98th.

Manteo and Currituck did not field competitors in the men’s cross country meet.

In the 1A Women’s Cross Country meet, 135 runners from 40 schools competed. Winning the race was Abigail Hemric from North Stokes with a time of 19:19.17.

Camden’s team finished fifth in the state meet. Running for the Camden were Hannah Healy who finished 14th with a time of 20:53.27; Cadence Langton, 35th, 21:49.35; Keeley Williams, 37th, 21:50.82; Stella Sophia, 81st, 23:07.16; Autumn Healy, 83rd, 23:11.48. Also running for Camden was Victoria Royal who finished 120th.

Manteo High School’s Tiffany Fenz finished 58th, with a time of 22:29.53.

For Cape Hatteras, ninth grader Chloe Flythe finished 72nd with a time of 22:53.83

In the 2A Women’s Cross Country meet, First Flight High’s team finished seventh in the state. Running for the Nighthawks were Lily Snow, 47th, with a time of 21:20.70; Maggie McNinch, 60th, 21:39.06; Madison Pugh, 62nd, 21:40.83; Maddy Wagner, 69th, 21:48.72; Tatum Dermatas, 72nd, 21:58.24. Also running were Emma Byard at 78th and Emma Hartnett at 79th.

The Currituck County High School Women’s team finished 11th in the state. Running for Currituck were Hailee Renike in 35th place at a time of 21:05.57; Serenity Doran, 59th, 21:38.14; Jasmine Gorney, 70th, 21:52.36; Ashley Reinke, 104th, 22:05.63; Sydney MacDonalds, 122nd, 23:39.22. Also running were Kaia Myhr in 128th place and Lilly East in 146th place.
