FFHS swimmers win at Elizabeth City meet

First Flight swimmers dominated a November 22 tournament-style meet at Elizabeth City, winning both boys and girls competition.

Junior Nighthawk Bri Wilson registered her team’s first state championship cut of the season in the 400 Freestyle event to help lead First Flight girls to a first place finish with 133 points.

Pasquotank County girls were a distant second with 78 points, Camden finished third with 70, Currituck placed fourth with 57 and John A. Holmes took fifth with 28 points while Perquimans edged out Northeastern in the final two places with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Cutting almost 8 seconds from her 400 freestyle win, Wilson also dropped 4.6 seconds in her 100 butterfly time. Also of note was a performance by senior Ashby King, who slashed 11 seconds off her 100 backstroke time.

Results for First Flight boys also saw breakthrough performances when Micah Stewart dropped an impressive 18 seconds off his 400 freestyle time and Parker Holcomb cut 9.6 seconds off his 100 breaststroke time and 3 seconds in his 50 free.

First Flight won the boys meet with 138 points, followed by Currituck in second with 102 and Northeastern in third with 48 points. Rounding out the field, Pasquotank finished fourth with 31 points, John A. Holmes was fifth with 24 and Camden trailed with 22.

At least 15 new regional times were posted by First Flight swimmers, including Maura Trivette in the 200 free and 200 IM, Erin Bembridge in the 200 IM and 100 breast; Brodie Nash in the 200 IM and 400 free; Payton Savage 100 fly and 400 free; Ben Tonnesen 100 fly and 100 back; Tucker Crook in the 200 free; Tyler Anderson in the 200 IM and Anne Holcomb in the 50 free.
