A concert and a writing workshop were two of the many events held during Dare County Arts Council’s Outer Banks Veterans Week to celebrate and honor those who have served our country.

On Thursday, November 7 over 150 people, including many local veterans, gathered at Secret Island Tavern to see country music artists Keith Anderson and Ray Scott perform at the Outer Banks Veterans Concert.

The concert was a fundraiser for Dare County Arts Council’s veterans programs.

“The country music provided by Keith Anderson and Ray Scott for the veterans fundraiser was outstanding,” said Dare County Board of Commissioners chairman and DCAC board member Bob Woodard. “Programs like these hosted by the Arts Council are critical for our veterans who have served our country. We need to continue to do all that we can to support our veterans.”

The weekend of November 9-10, veterans Ron Capps and Colin Halloran led the 7th Annual Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop, which was tuition-free for the 20 veterans, active-duty military and their family members who attended.

The goal of the Outer Banks Veterans Writing Project is to teach enrolled applicants to express their experiences through the literary arts.

Outside of Dare County Arts Council’s two keystone veterans events, many local organizations and businesses participated in Outer Banks Veterans Week, offering specials and holding ceremonies to honor local veterans.

The 8th Annual Outer Banks Veterans Writing Workshop and the 2020 Outer Banks Veterans Week will be held in early November of 2020.

This project is supported by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural & Cultural Resources. This project is also supported in part by the Outer Banks Visitors Bureau.
