Alpean Hassell Terry

Sadie Alpean Hassell Terry of Jonesville, Va. died December 6, 2019. Alpean was born January 19, 1940 in Tyrrell County to the late Clarence Windsor Hassell and Martha Brent Twiddy Hassell. In 1956 she married Nelson D. “Dick” Terry, who is left to cherish her memory along with their four children Cindy Dowell (Don Stacy) of Appalachia, Va., Nelson D. “Buddy” Terry Jr. (Kim) of Jacksonville, AR, Debbie Terry (Bull Tolson) of Manteo and Chris Terry (Gina) of Statesville.         

Alpean will also be fondly remembered by her grandsons Michael Terry (Ae), Chandler and Cameron Terry, and great granddaughter Grace Terry, her sisters Frances Forbes and Sucelia Murphy (Joe) and many nieces, nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents, Alpean is preceded in death by her siblings Joseph Hassell, Ella Swain, Shirley Jackson, Henry Hassell, Dickie Hassell and Ginny Gibbs.

Alpean was a member of Woodway Church of God. She was active in many community organizations, including the Jonesville Women’s Club. She served for many years as a “Pink Lady” volunteer at the local hospital. Alpean enjoyed crafting in all forms from crochet to ceramics, as well as baking and canning.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Terry were held December 9, 2019 at Province Funeral Home of Pennington Gap, Va. with Pastor Cliff Ely and John Britton officiating. Mrs. Terry was laid to rest at Millers Chapel Cemetery in Jonesville, Va.
