George Henry Alexander, 66, of Manteo, died January 7, 2020 at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

Born in Plymouth on September 22, 1953, he was the son of the late Wanda Jean Jones and Elwood Preston “Shorty” Alexander.

Better known as “Walking George,” he is survived by siblings Charles Alexander (Virginia) of Plymouth, Troy Alexander (Sandy) and Glenn Alexander (Judy) all of Virginia; nieces and great-nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on January 17 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo with Rev. Greg Clark officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior. Private burial will take place at Roanoke Island Memorial Gardens.
