On Jan. 27, the Outer Banks Anglers Club and Oregon Inlet Artificial Reef Committee set out to watch their almost five-year project be completed. A new artificial reef, AR-165, became the fifth reef off the Dare County coast. Composed of donated tugboats, the reef sits about 8 miles south of the Oregon Inlet buoy and 3 miles outside of the coast. Soon enough, the reef will have a thriving ecosystem and provide a new place for fishermen to visit.
