Reuben Jerry O’Neal, age 77, of Elizabeth City, died Monday, February 3, 2020 at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center. He was born January 4, 1943 to the late Alvin Alexander O’Neal and Roxanna Sawyer O’Neal. Reuben served his country proudly and with honor in the US Navy and as a member of the Honor Guard at the White House. After military service, he was self employed as a painter. He was proud of his Celtic heritage and loved the Irish music and lore. He established several chapters of Alcoholic Anonymous while living in Florida.

Reuben is survived by his fiancée, Traci Kizen; his daughter, Carol Morris Menne; his grandson, John Nicholas Morris; his sisters, Dorcas Jane O’Neal Sawyer, Lynda Fay O’Neal, Alice Dean O’Neal, Naomi Virginia O’Neal Jones; and brothers, Joseph Edward O’Neal and Adrain Cary O’Neal.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020 at Twiford Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the funeral home following the memorial.
