Cape Hatteras basketball teams continue winning

Both varsity basketball teams at Cape Hatteras Secondary continue winning.

The teams have defeated Ocracoke twice and Columbia once in the past week.

The games scheduled for Friday night against Bear Grass were cancelled due to high winds and flooded roads.

The Bear Grass games are re-scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10 with the boys junior varsity game starting at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity games following.

On Monday, the games provide an opportunity to salute the seniors playing winter sports for the Hurricanes. Following the boys game, the school’s Homecoming Court will be presented.

In a Jan. 31 game, the Cape Hatteras boys defeated Ocracoke 73-37. Three Cape Hatteras players scored in double digits: José Cirisa with 21, Jasper Morris with 20 and Dylan Gray with 14. For Ocracoke, Parker Gaskill scored 13.

In a Feb. 4 game against Columbia, the Hurricanes defeated the Wildcats 45 to 31.

In a Feb. 5 match against Ocracoke, the Cape Hatteras varsity boys won again 53-38 with Charlie Conner scoring 17; Cirisa hitting for 15 and Gray shooting 10.

The Lady Hurricanes defeated Ocracoke 51-21 on Jan. 31. Chloe Flythe scored 18, Emma Delmonte 12 and Lexus Meekins 11. The high scorer for Ocracoke was Vanessa Lora 12.

In Columbia, Cape Hatteras girls won 54-12 and against Ocracoke for a second time, Cape Hatteras won 73-25.
