Dana Meekins Carter, 55, of Bath, died February 15, 2020 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital. She was born March 22, 1964 in Elizabeth City to Lois Lee Johnson Meekins and the late Preston Ferrell Meekins. Dana was a graduate of Currituck County High School and went on to earn a degree in cosmetology. She later also earned her degree as a certified nursing assistant. She worked at Sentara Nursing Center in Barco, NC for several years. She was a compassionate caregiver and was much loved by her patients and co-workers.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by daughter Maria Carter Fronius of Chesapeake, Va.; sons Wesley Carter (Diana) of Tampa, Fla. and Jordan Carter (fiancée Erin Sousa) of Coinjock; grandchildren Briella Fronius, Myla Fronius and David Fronius III; brother Jackie Meekins of Bath; and sisters Jeanne Murray, Cathy Forbes and Iris Meekins, all of Coinjock. She was  preceded in death by her father and a brother, Wayde Preston Meekins.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on February 19 at Twiford Memorial Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Susie Fitch-Slater. Burial will be in Meekins Cemetery, Colington. The family will receive friends at her mother’s residence, 142 Waterlily Road, Coinjock. Twiford Funeral Home, 405 East Church Street, Elizabeth City is assisting the Carter family.
