Currituck County has announced that due to COVID-19 concerns, Bay Disposal has suspended bulk item collections in Corolla as a safety precaution for their employees.

According to the announcement, Corolla property owners and residents should not place large household items by the street, as they will not be picked up.

By Friday, April 24, Currituck County was to have in place open-top dumpster containers at the Corolla Village Rd. beach access, the Bonito St. parking lot and the Southern Beach access.

Citizens may use these containers to dispose of bulk items such as furniture and mattresses.

Examples of items not to be placed in the containers include white goods and appliances such as refrigerators and washing machines; paints, pesticides or chemicals; electronics; or construction debris.

Local contractors are not to use these containers to dispose of commercial wastes or materials, the county noted.
