Barbara Aylor Midgette, 88, of Buxton, died April 23, 2020.

Barbara was born in Arlington, VA on September 13th, 1931 to the late Walter and Cecilia Aylor. She was preceded in death by her husband Luther Garland Midgette.

She is survived by brothers John and Stephen Aylor; sons Alexander Brody, Dan Brody and Riley Midgette; grandchildren James Brody, Scott Brody, Caroline Brody, Kailee Midgette, Zoe-Grace Midgette, and Nathan Midgette; and great-grandson Jameson Brody.

She grew up in Washington, DC and also spent time in Mexico City as a child when her father was posted there. She was proud to be fluent in Spanish and was a proficient pianist. She was a gifted artist and spent hours at the National Zoo sketching birds. She attended American University on a full scholarship but left before graduation. She worked for the Pan American Union and the DC Public Library.

After leaving Washington, she married Luther and became a longtime resident of Buxton, NC.  Barbara was fond of surf fishing, reading, and writing. She worked in real estate for a time and then later loved working with her friend Gigi at Buxton Village Books. She delighted in the natural beauty of Hatteras Island and the love of her family and friends.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
