Richard “Pete” David Gilbert, 63, of Elizabeth City, died June 12, 2020 at his residence. He was born in Portsmouth, Va. on April 17, 1957 to the late Phillip Thomas Gilbert and Doris Magdaline Stancil Gilbert and was the husband of Ramona “Mona” Deerfield Gilbert. He retired from the civil service at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

In addition to Mona, Pete is survived by children Rhiana Srebro of Camden and Saxan Steed and husband Travis of Elizabeth City; grandchildren Dominic Srebro of Camden, Evelyn and Luna Steed of  Elizabeth City, Mason Steed and Ava Steed of Pittsburg, Pa.; and brother Frederick T. Gilbert and wife Janice of  Chesapeake, Va. He was preceded in death by brother Phillip Michael Gilbert.

Memorial celebrations will be held at the Culpepper Inn, 609 W. Main Street, Elizabeth City at 5:30 p.m. on June 19 on June 28 from 2-6 p.m. at the Bide A Wee Golf Course Pavilion in Portsmouth, Va.
