To the editor:
Since oral public comment is not allowed at monthly Dare County Board of Commissioners meetings because of coronavirus concerns, an open letter to the Board seems in order.
Specifically, with budgetary constraints created by a virus-related economic lockdown, I would be remiss if I did not convey to the Board a current view of extraordinary value observed with Dare County’s hospice program, a service recently engaged to help my wife during the last weeks of her life.
My family and I experienced prompt professional assistance by a cadre of experts that not only excelled in their craft, but did so with utmost courtesy, empathy, gentleness, and loving attention.
Consequently, looking at budgets and personnel staffing, I recommend that the Board continue to recognize the value of this outstanding program, a service worthy of full support by county government.
