Dare commissioners make appointments; Census response 76.61%

Dare County’s Board of Commissioners made appointments to several committees on Monday, June 15.

For a three-year term on the Dare County Board of Adjustment, the commissioners reappointed Edward Mann Jr. and Anna Creef.

For a three-year term on the Game and Wildlife Commission, the commissioners reappointed Kyle Perry, Missy McPherson, Robert Owens and George Henderson. The Game and Wildlife Commission issues and renews duck blind licenses in all Dare County waters. Renewals and new licenses are received on a yearly basis from August through December of each year.

For a two-year term on the Roanoke Island Community Center Board, the commissioners reappointed Kelli Harmon, Lynette Ford and Daniel Selby.

With the passing of Chad Jones, the Dare County Airport Authority moved to fill the vacancy created by Jones’ death. The board reviewed the applications of James R. Kenny, David Crownover and A. Gordon (Don) Milbrath. The Airport Authority Board recommended the appointment of David Crownover to fill the unexpired term to July 2023. The commissioners appointed Crownover, who lives in Manteo and hangars his Cessna 172M Skyhawk at the Dare County Regional Airport. The new authority member is an active pilot with instrument, multi-engine and commercial ratings with tailwheel endorsement.

Dorothy Hester, the county’s public information officer, spoke with the commissioners about the county’s response rate for the 2020 Census. As of Friday, June 26, 2020, the county’s overall response rate is 76.61%. The response figures reported nationally do not take into account homes that are not occupied by permanent residents. Dare County updates the response rate daily.
