Coley “Corkey” Burnette, 64, died August 14, 2020 after battling cancer. He was born on August 6, 1956 in Norfolk, Va. Corkey was preceded in death by father Coley L. Burnette and son Matthew Burnette.

Coley was a member of Currituck Bible Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, helped the Food Pantry and was on the finance team. Corkey was a longshoreman for 29 years.

Coley is survived by mother Margaret Burnette of Moyock; sisters Janet Newell and Nancy Langley, also of Moyock; children Michael Shane Burnette of Moyock, Billie Burnette of Barco; grandchildren Summer Burnette of Knotts Island, Angelina Burnette of Richlands, Paeton Vaughan of Barco and Riley Vaughan of Barco.

Funeral services were held August 18 at Currituck Bible Baptist. A graveside committal service at Knotts Island Cemetery on Woodleigh Road in Knotts Island immediately followed the funeral.
