Mayor Parker appointed to state board
On Aug. 19, 2020, Gov. Roy Cooper announced the appointment of Bettie Parker, mayor of Elizabeth City, to the North Carolina Code Officials Qualifications Board. Previously, Parker was a high school math teacher.
Parker is the first woman to be mayor of Elizabeth City and was the first African American woman to be elected as an at-large member of the Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners.
