Catherine Louise Pledger Bowser

October 24, 1927 – August 22, 2020

Manteo, NC – Catherine Louise Pledger Bowser, 92, of Manteo, NC died Saturday, August 22, 2020, at her home surrounded by family.

A native of Manteo, she was born October 24, 1927, to the late Lydia Ann Collins Pledger and George Washington Pledger, Sr.

Catherine was a faithful member of Haven Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Elnora Bowser of Landover, MD, Gilda Bowser of Manteo, NC, Mary Bowser of Oxon Hill, MD, and Catherine Bowser of Manteo, NC; and two sons, Roland Bowser of Manteo, NC and Melvin Bowser (Irma) of Hinesville, GA. Also, surviving are eleven grandchildren, Theresa Gregory, Ray Bowser, Keith Bowser, Cecil W. Bowser III, Anissa Bowser, Anthony Basnight, LaToya Shelby, Arthur Bowser, Deidra Smalls, Alfred Burton, and Jonathan Bowser; numerous great/great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil W. Bowser, Sr.; three sons, Johnny Pledger, Cecil William Bowser, Jr., and Thomas Foster Bowser; two sisters, Marion Hall and Jannie Overton; and three brothers, James William Pledger, George Pledger, Jr., and Arthur Pledger.

A funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 28, 2020, at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo with Elder TJ Etheridge officiating. A graveside committal will follow at Haven Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives for a viewing and visitation on Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

The family request that all who attend Mrs. Bowser’s services wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines.
