Muriel (Nancy) Louise Newman, 84, of the Ponzer community, died August 29, 2020 at Cross Creek Health Care Center, Swan Quarter.

She was born in Hyde County on January 27, 1936 to the late Richard Sr. and Muriel Wahab Newman. 

A private service will be held at the family plot at St. John’s Episcopal Church Cemetery. Pastor Mike Wheeler will officiate.

Surviving are daughters Laura Perry of Jamesville and Marylynn “Bit” Cahoon of Swan Quarter; grandchildren Nancy Jo Kaster of Middletown, Va., Dana Fish of Brunswick, Ga., April Armstrong of Chocowinity, Richard Steel of Durham, William “Bill” Steel, James “Jim” Steel and Paul Steel, all from of Jamesville and John Williams of Yankton, SD; eleven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; brothers Gilbert Newman of Pantego, Tommy Newman of Swan Quarter; sister Florence N. Able of Swan Quarter and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by sons Elwood Williams, Mayhew “Buddy” Williams Jr.; grandson Rhett Steel; brothers Richard “Dickie” Newman Jr., Harvey Newman, Mitchell Newman and sister Nell N. Sears.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service, Swan Quarter.
