State and local COVID-19 updates

“We are making progress,” said Mandy Cohen, secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services at a Tuesday afternoon press conference.

She pointed to the metric that the percentage of positive cases to coronavirus tests is hovering around 5%, a metric goal. For Dare County, the percent of positive tests to overall tests since testing started in early March remained stable this week at 4.18%. The percent positive to total tests for the past week alone decreased slightly to 4.79%.

At the same time, Cohen announced that North Carolina deaths due to the virus now total 3,111. Some 51 new deaths were noted on Tuesday, a new high for the state. She said the deaths serve as a reminder that COVID-19 is “dangerous and sometimes deadly.”
In North Carolina, lab-confirmed cases reached a total of 186,887. Some 916 people are hospitalized.

As of Tuesday, Sept. 15, Dare County has passed the 500 case mark in cumulative COVID-19 cases.

On Tuesday, the case count rose to 502 with one resident and four non-residents testing positive.

Over last weekend, 14 new cases were lab-confirmed with five residents and nine non-residents testing positive. Monday and Tuesday this week added another seven cases.

Of the total cumulative cases, 267 are residents of which 242 have recovered and 235 are non-residents, with recovery by 169.

Of the active resident cases, a woman over 65 is hospitalized, two people are isolating outside Dare County and eight are in home isolation. Of the non-residents, one is hospitalized, one is in isolation in Dare County and 59 have transferred isolation to home counties.

On Tuesday, Sept. 15, Hyde County Health Department reported a total of 124 lab-confirmed cases with 84 recoveries. Some 37 cases are active. Three deaths have been reported.

On Friday, Sept. 11, Cross Creek Healthcare in Swan Quarter continues to report a total of 32 positive cases, with 11 among staff and 21 among residents.

In Camden County, 107 lab-confirmed cases have been counted with 92 recovered. A dozen cases are active. Three deaths have occurred in the county due to the coronavirus. The statistics are as of Sept. 15, 2020.

In Currituck County, 136 cases have been counted with 101 recoveries and 35 cases remaining active. No deaths due to coronavirus have been recorded in the county. The state is reporting The Currituck House, a residential care facility, has four staff and 10 residents with coronavirus cases.

In Pasquotank County as of Sept. 15, 630 lab-confirmed cases have been counted with 511 recovered and 90 remaining active. Pasquotank has suffered 29 deaths due to the coronavirus.

Pasquotank Waterbrooke, a residential care facility, reports eight staff with coronavirus and 16 residents with the disease. Three deaths have occurred at the facility.

Elizabeth City Health and Rehabilitation reports a total of two lab-confirmed cases, with one staffer and one resident each having the virus.

In Tyrrell County, a total of 113 lab-confirmed cases have been counted with 108 recovered. Two deaths have been recorded.
