Peter Groom, of Avon, died September 25, 2020. Pete was born and raised in Troy, NY. While raising son John, he fell in love with the Outer Banks. He and his wife Donna have now made Avon their home for the past 21 years.

Pete is survived by wife Donna; sons John and wife Jessica, and Jeremiah; stepchildren Susanne, Ned and Myrah, Kristin and husband Patrick; grandchildren Finn, Leif, Jacob, Abby, Neva, Boyd and Syndee; as well as sisters Janet Groom and Susan Altoft, along with an extensive local and distant community.

A celebration of life with family and community will be held October 1 at 1 p.m. Friends are asked to join the family in sharing stories about Pete during this service. The celebration of Pete’s life will take place on the beach down from his house. The path is at the corner of Ocean Ln. and Jolly Ln. There is also a shorter path with beach access one block away at the corner of Hatteras Ln and Jolly Ln. This will be followed by a physically distanced gathering with refreshments and a toast outside of Pete and Donna’s home at 39238 Ocean Ln., Avon, NC 27915.  Please bring a chair if you would like to have a place to sit during the service on the beach. There is plenty of parking along the surface streets.

In lieu of flowers, Pete’s family is requesting donations be made to the Hatteras Island Rescue Squad, PO Box 639, Buxton, NC 27920, on the memo line please put “In Memory of Peter Groom.”
