Migratory waterfowl are in the area. One of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge’s purposes is to provide habitat for migratory wintering waterfowl.

Shown are a flock of snow geese taking flight. At the Pungo unit of Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, tundra swans and a variety of ducks may also be seen.

Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge is one of nine national wildlife refuges in the Coastal North Carolina National Wildlife Refuges Complex.
