Hyde County Schools issued an announcement Tuesday morning that both Mattamuskeet and Ocracoke campuses will operate on a two hour delay due to weather concerns.
“We are all excited about getting back in our school buildings this morning, but the weather is going to delay us just a couple more hours,” stated Julio Morales, public information officer for Hyde County Schools. “Even though the rain appears to be ending around 7:00 am, the National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for all of Hyde County until 8:00 this morning. This will make travel to school by bus, car, or walking during this time potentially hazardous.”
All Hyde County Schools will operate on a two hour delay Tuesday, February 16 to “prevent anyone from having to travel during the tornado watch period,” stated Morales.
Dismissal will still be at 12:30 p.m. for Ocracoke Campus and 1 p.m. for Mattamuskeet Campus.
“We apologize for any inconvenience. Thank you and please be safe!” stated the delay announcement.
