Dare County announced that the ribbon cutting ceremony originally scheduled for March 19 to celebrate the opening of the Dare County Animal Shelter was postponed due to forecasts for inclement weather.

The event, which was slated to take place at 11 a.m. at the brand-new shelter located at 378 Airport Road in Manteo has been rescheduled for March 31.

Although Dare County officials and Outer Banks SPCA staff members are disappointed by the cancellation of Friday’s event, the county is offering a sneak peek of the new facility by posting a virtual walk-through tour on its YouTube channel, YouTube.com/DareCounty.

The new shelter, which was completed earlier this month, is open to the public for those who are looking to adopt a new four-legged friend. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there are limits on the number of people who are permitted to be inside the shelter at the same time, so there may be slight delays when accessing the facility.
