“If you look at the photo quickly, you might have the illusion that an osprey is standing on a branch attached to nothing! A neat feat if it were possible,” stated USFWS. “Instead the photographer snapped a wonderful photo of an osprey swooping into a treetop, bringing a twig to its nest building site.”

Spring is the time many ospreys return to the region to raise a family. Nest building is an important first step. This one was spotted at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.
