Southern Shores, NC – Deanna Sue Clay Broaddus, 76, of Southern Shores, NC died Monday, May 10, 2021, at her home.

Born in Charleston, WV on July 27, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Geraldine Lucas Clay and Ashley Wayne Clay.

Having earned her bachelor’s degree in Education from Concord University, Sue’s career took her to Virginia Beach, VA serving the children of Virginia Beach Public School System and Star of the Sea Catholic School.

Active in her community, Sue was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, and several shag clubs. She enjoyed gardening and creating stained glass.

Sue is survived by her husband, Charles N. “Bill” Broaddus Jr.; daughter, Ashley (Johnny) Heilig of Camden, NC; two sons, Charles N. “Chad” Broaddus III (Marisa) of Williamsburg, VA and Clay Broaddus of Jersey City, NJ; and seven grandchildren, Charles N. Broaddus IV of Richmond, VA, Joshua Broaddus of Richmond, VA, Elizabeth Broaddus of Williamsburg, VA, Isabella Broaddus of Norfolk, VA, Samantha Heilig of Portland, OR, Kayla Heilig of Outer Banks, NC, and Kaile Heilig of Boone, NC. Also, survived are her cousins, Debbie Mundock of Beckly, WV and Linda Lightfoot of Villages, FL; niece, Kathy Reilly of Manasas, VA; and nephew, Kevin Clay of Kernersville, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2021, on the lawn of All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Cindy Simpson officiating. Friends and relatives are welcome to view and pay their respects from 11:45 until 12:45 p.m. in the sanctuary of the church. A private committal service and burial will take place in Southern Shores Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church Endowment Fund (40 Pintail Trl, Southern Shores, NC 27949).
