Manteo resident donates 200th unit of blood

Fred Parker, a Manteo resident, donated his 200th unit of blood at the Outer Banks Community blood drive held in April at Holy Redeemer Church in Kitty Hawk. “Congratulations Fred! And thank you for your continued support,” stated an event organizer.

Parker serves as a volunteer fire fighter on Roanoke Island and works part time for the Dare County Health Department.

“I’ve donated blood for two astronauts in the early 60’s and it was an honor to do so,” stated Parker.

When Fred isn’t rolling up his sleeve to donate blood, he enjoys fishing on the Outer Banks. He and wife Jane and celebrated his 50th anniversary in November 2020. They have two sons who also reside in North Carolina.

“You’re an asset to our community for your continued blood donations who saves lives of people and you’re one of them,” stated an event organizer of Parker.

There were 196 donors/units collected at the April Outer Banks Community blood drive.

“We are looking forward to the June 2021 blood drive that will be held at Holy Redeemer Church in Kitty Hawk. Details to follow,” stated the organizer. “You too can be a donor! So please mark your calendar!”
