Rex and Jo Ann Meekins, of Manteo, celebrate 67 years of marriage on Sunday, June 20, 2021.

Married in Jacksonville in 1954, the couple has resided in locations such as Portland, Maine; Groton, Conn.; St. David’s Island, Bermuda; Chesapeake, Va. as well as their current home in the Sunnyside area of Roanoke Island.

Rex, a career Coast Guardsman, retired in 1980 after 27 years of service. Jo Ann raised four boys – Stan, Craig, Joe and Todd – a “more than full-time job,” noted son Todd. Rex and Jo Ann also have a grandson, Matthew.
