Luther Elwood Hooper, 77, of Wanchese, died July 21, 2021.

Affectionately known as “Hoss” or “Shorty,” he was a native of Salvo, born on February 4, 1944, to the late Sarah Swindell Hooper and Luther William Hooper.

Luther is survived by son Robert “Bobby” William Hooper and wife Amanda; grandson Caleb Hooper; three sisters Alpean Midgett, Rachael Ewell and Clara Gallop; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Deborah Swain and brother Donald Hooper.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on August 12 at Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo.
