Ruth B. Spencer, the Town of Columbia’s newest employee, is pictured taking the oath of office from Mayor James W. Cahoon.

She will serve as deputy tax collector in addition to handling other administrative responsibilities for the town.

Spencer is a Tyrrell County native and previously worked in the Tyrrell County Tax Department. A graduate of Columbia High School, she earned an associate degree at Martin Community College.
