A North Carolina sheriff’s office said a man drowned in a lake on Monday, the fourth such incident at the lake in 2021.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that deputies along with emergency personnel were called to a boat ramp at Falls Lake for the report of a possible drowning. When deputies arrived, witnesses said a man had gone into the water but had not resurfaced.

Search and recovery teams began searching the waters and found the unidentified man’s body.

Falls Lake, north of Raleigh and east of Durham, has seen at least three other drowning deaths this year. The News & Observer of Raleigh reports Wake County officials found the body of a Raleigh man who drowned in the lake. In June, a 30-year-old Charlotte man drowned in the lake after he jumped off a boat to retrieve a piece of clothing, and in April, a 19-year-old from Knightdale died.
