Dare County Health Division reports that the county is still experiencing a high level of community transmission and remains in the CDC’s red zone.

The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control have authorized booster vaccine shots and recommend them for individuals who are 65 and older and are 18 years old and live in long-term care settings, have underlying medical conditions and work and live in high-risk settings.

A booster shot is available for those who received a second/final dose of Pfizer or Moderna more than six months ago or the Johnson & Johnson vaccine more than two months ago and meet one of the qualifying criteria.

On Nov. 2, Dare’s Health Division reported the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is meeting Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 3, and will be discussing the FDA’s recommendation to authorize the Pfizer vaccine for children ages 5-11. Dare County DHHS will submit a separate update this week specific to the COVID vaccination for 5-11 year olds.
