On Tuesday, November 23 and Wednesday, November 24 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Island Farm will hold its annual Garden to Hearth event to celebrate the fall season and the Thanksgiving holiday.

Visitors will learn the various ways that Roanoke Island families prepared for the winter months on Roanoke Island in the 1850s. “Join our interpreters as they cook over the hearth, pickle root vegetables, smoke mullet in the smokehouse, make candles, and construct simple grapevine wreaths,” stated the event announcement.

Both candle and wreath making are included with the $8 cost of admission for those aged 4 and older; 0-3 year olds may enter the site for free.
